About

Hi my name is Tyler Carson
I am a graduate from Thompson Rivers University (TRU). My degree is a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Sociology and a minor in Economics. I was born and was raised in Kamloops, BC. Over the Winter semester 2015, I had the luxury to travel to Barcelona, Spain and attend the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). I studied economics and took a beginners Spanish class while abroad. From this experience, I learned more than what was taught in class.
Being in Europe, I had the opportunity to travel to travel to multiple cities in Spain, France, Portugal, Morocco, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK. I can only describe my time spent abroad as one of the greatest experiences of my life. I made an amazing group of friends, got to experience a different culture, and travel to some of the most beautiful locations in the world. I felt my time abroad had really changed me in a postive way- I learned to exit my comfort zone and become more enganged in the world around me. I have learned to take the intitative to seek what I want in life. I had the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures and countries. This has taught me to never take anything for granted, nor judge something at face value. I have learned to be more senstive in my interactions with others. My time abroad had changed who I am for the best.
Following my experiences abroad, I chose to become a Study Abroad Ambassador at TRU to encourage more students to take advantage of this program and to help understand the benefits it holds for them. I believe this experience is of value in teaching students to become globally minded citizens. It shows us how interconnected our world truly is, and to recognize how the simplest actions we take for granted, impacts the context and lives of others around the world.
This website documents parts of my time abroad, my work experience as an ambassador, and what I have learned cumulatively from these experiences as well as my studies at TRU.
I hope you enjoy,
- Tyler
